No Crossposting?

On lemmy you can cross-post (share) posts to other communities. On piefed I couldn’t find anything similar. Am I missing something?

Only link posts can be cross-posted. Look for this icon:

Ah thx. but why can’t image posts be crossposted?

I think for images, you could copy/paste the image url into another community as a link and it registers as a cross post, but I’m not certain of that. Rimu might correct me on that.

Yes, that will work.

That’s something, piefed could do for the user.

It’s a known issue that we have done some work on: https://codeberg.org/rimu/pyfedi/issues/996

I took a crack at crossposting images when I added the feature to add alt text for a link post, but ran into some issues that were non-trivial to solve. I think it’s a fixable problem though, just that there’s only so much time for us few devs to put towards it.

Basically any change to the make_post or edit_post functions can introduce a lot of potential bugs, so I didn’t want to try to push for this feature right before we were planning on 1.3 releasing. I will be taking a look at this though as well as custom thumbnails soon(tm).

No, it exists… in fact you can see comments from cross-posted communities in the same post too.

As for how… I don’t know

Piefed very much does, and has comment consolidation, which is regularly brought up as a solution to discussion fragmentation https://piefed.zip/post/668091#comment_2269598

Found a way to workaround the limitation of only being able to crosspost link posts. You can crosspost image posts (and maybe discussion posts as well) with a PieFed account using the Voyager app.

Just crosspost with the app and PieFed is still able to track comments from both posts.
