Important progress has been made regarding bringing MLS end-to-end encryption to the ActivityPub protocol, with developers already building implementations and providing feedback to a future version of the protocol spec.
I use a few social media platforms at the same time. I’m used to seeing the same things on each platform. That’s how the internet has been for years - you read the same things on the same five sites.
This app could potentially supplant Tik Tok overtime. As Tik Tok’s censorship following it’s acquisition by US investors such as Oracle, Silver Lake, and Abu Dhabi-based MGX, and UpScrolled already having questionable ethics, this may be the path forward.
Because of the nature of federation posts and comments on LemmyNSFW communities will live on basically forever. However the photos and videos will likely be lost. Some were links to external media and will stick around, some may be cached. But most photos and videos that were uploaded directly to the instance will break when the server fully goes down.
All the cool effects, honorifics, translator notes that explain references that you might miss as non-japanese viewer… Whoever put this much effort for free more than 10 years ago, thank you! It was so refreshing seeing this in the era of corporate sloppy subtitles!
Hello, I’m currently setting up a nodeBB forum with some federated Communities. I wanted to test out how this post will work throughout the other instances. If you would be kind enough to leave a comment to see if it works, I’d appreciate it. :)
I browse different lemmy instances usually because the feed is always different. Was blown away when I recently went to lemmy.today, no clue when they did the change but whoever is in charge of the design has my admiration! (*chef’s kiss*)
To start with, I just want to thank everybody that took the time to vote in the awards for this year. For some meta discussion about the awards themselves, check out my pinned comment. Without further ado, here are your winners:
Cross posted here as it was highlighted that the individual is a lead Lemmy developer, raising serious concerns about the direction of Lemmy, a leading Fediverse platform, and the impact on future user adoption.
Hello everyone! After Discord’s new CEO came to power, I think its now time to find a viable discord alternative. I figured out that fluxer.app might very well be the best one so I decided to make a community about the Fediverse on there
Hey, I tried to make it so that upvotes people give this post and my comments won’t actually affect my nodeBB forum reputation. Anyone mind upvoting a few times to test this out.
Hi there! So I understand that federated systems can speak to one another and interact. My question I guess is should I be using my Mastodon account to log into PieFed, and PixelFed, and Bookwyrm? Or do I need to create specific accounts for all these services, just as I did before?
I am pleased to announce the nominees for the 2025 Fediverse Anime Awards. You can see a full list of the nominees in each category below. To receive a ballot with voting instructions, send a private message that says !ballot to @kurisu@ani.social. She checks for new messages every five minutes. I have tried to pre-emptively answer some questions in a comment below.
Today I was just thinking about how PieFed (and the fediverse in general) reminds me of an earlier internet that I used to like, where “social media” was just phpBB forums running on old computers in peoples’ basements. And I thought, “I just wish PieFed looked a little different to reflect that. Too bad there aren’t any themes for it.”
In reviewing the Fedipact page, I noticed the message about Threads having moved to threads.com nearly a year ago. In reviewing the federation status of various Lemmy instances with the Federation Checker tool, I noticed that threads.com doesn’t appear to have been added to their defederation lists. Is Threads able to federate with other Fediverse instances using its new domain, including those that have defederated from threads.net?
So I’ve been thinking about the whole PSKY winning the bid for WBD situation, plus a ton of other US News sites being owned and controlled by MAGA — and now that PSKY owns massive legacy brands like CNN and platforms like TikTok, it got me wondering:
I was running Piefed, but switched it to Lemmy after a while, it’s done through the same domain.
I am running a Fediverse server through a Cloudflare tunnel, had some major de-sync issues with Lemmy.world, and a new account seemingly resolved them. I am not sure if all is working well or not.
My terminal is spamming me with inbox post requests to lemmy.world and I am unsure if this is normal or not.
For averyone wondering why converser.eu is slow and/or you can’t register, I had a conversation with the admin of matrix instance converser.eu, the convo is in french so i’m copying the translation here ! (I did remove my and someone else’s answers so you only have their explanations)
Before I come to the regular post and artist info, I need your opinion: look at this image (or some other of the artist). How long did you take to see that this is AI (without looking at the tags) and what detail gave it away?
