This app could potentially supplant Tik Tok overtime. As Tik Tok’s censorship following it’s acquisition by US investors such as Oracle, Silver Lake, and Abu Dhabi-based MGX, and UpScrolled already having questionable ethics, this may be the path forward.

Labelling or hiding AI-generated content

Community iconc/piefed_meta@piefed.social by
Rimu@piefed.social
he/him 3 months ago

In PieFed v1.4 it will be possible to label posts as having AI generated content. Labelled posts will get a little badge near their title, similar to how nsfw and nsfl content is labelled. Mods and authors can change this value on a post in the same way they do flair and nsfw, using the little tags button in the bottom right or in ‘More options’ when editing their post.

The onboarding will offer you a lot of topics to sign up to. These contain communities in them. The idea is to populate subscription feeds, however it can leave some users with a lot of undesired subscriptions if they click too many.

Lemmynsfw is down, possibly forever. The server is still serving images and videos though - if anyone wants to archive do it now!

Community iconc/fediverse@lemmy.world by
testauser1@lemmy.world

Because of the nature of federation posts and comments on LemmyNSFW communities will live on basically forever. However the photos and videos will likely be lost. Some were links to external media and will stick around, some may be cached. But most photos and videos that were uploaded directly to the instance will break when the server fully goes down.

Mastodon's baby elephant searches for a home, carrying the head of a desperate Hippocrates in his bundle.

@fediverseThe speed with which it happened prevented users from accessing their data, highlighting the risks of decentralized social media without backups. Its administrator ceased operations, causing confusion and data loss for many healthcare professionals who had signed up as an alternative to Twitter. This event serves as a reminder: If you follow this group, you can:1. Follow it and mention it in your messages, and it will reshare all your public posts addressed to it (this only applies to an initial message, not a reply to another message).2. Follow it only to read all the messages from fellow doctors who send messages through it.#MedMastodon

While Sanseito is a minority party, based on current forecasts, it is expected to capture a significant number of seats in Japan’s House of Councillors.

Community iconc/fediverse@lemmy.world by

Given the situation with TikTok—marked by censorship and the app’s recent control by MAGA-aligned interests—I checked Reddit to see what TikTok users are saying. It turns out many are asking for alternatives. Most replies suggest other proprietary apps, and I haven’t seen any recommendations for decentralized platforms like LOOPS and others from the Fediverse.

an instance chooser with 4 example instances

The upcoming v1.2 release will include a built-in instance chooser, so every instance will be able to recommend every other instance, without a centralized site like https://joinmastodon.org or https://lemmyverse.net/instances. (except those instances that have opted out or closed registrations)

Ghost of Lemm.ee?

At the beginning of last month, a crosspost to a lemm.ee community showed up in my feed - and it would seem that it showed up in mine alone.

FR#153 – What does a Discord replacement look like? (connectedplaces.online)

With Discord announcing age verification globally, people are searching for alternatives. But a Discord alternative on the open social web might just look structurally quite different.

Fediverse projects are maturing and adoption of them is trending up. I’m excited for the further development of the underlying technologies as well as the apps being built to leverage those technologies into even more integrated, user-friendly experiences.

Bottom sticky menu on mobile Instance-chooser during registration, displaying info about all other instances 3D rotating tag cloud for communities with lots of hashtags Explore menu, with feeds and topics, separate from the Community menu Translation function for posts written in languages you can’t understand, uses any LibreTranslate server. Advanced search filters on /communities table Show poll results without voting Nicer formatting on quotes Consistent image thumbnail size in post teasers in compact mode Communities list shows number of active users not subscriber count PWA uses instance logo instead of default PieFed one Slideshow doesn’t bug out after a few dozen photos like it used to Improve search results by weighting post titles more than bodies Mods can set nsfw and nsfl the same way they set flair - with a popup menu in the post list Import saved posts & comments and user notes when importing settings NSFW-specific functionality, like R18 agreement upon first visit, video auto-play.

How feasible would it be to host Mastodon, Pixelfed, Lemmy, Friendica, or Matrix over Tor/I2P?

Community iconc/fediverse@lemmy.world by

Given the US recently made a bid to fast-track multiple censorship bills, KOSA included, and is also trying to kill Section 230 now, which will pose an existential threat to Fediverse instances hosted over the clearnet, how feasible would it be to host said instances over Tor/I2P?

Is it just me has there been a lot of Spam and abuse on Lemmy lately?

Recently one of the posts I made got a porn spam comment and I also saw a lot of porn spam in my instance’s communites. Also just now I got an abusive DM telling me to kill myself and accusing me of being an astroturfer.
